Satay by The Bay - Great selction of food from all over the world!!

We have eaten at Satay by the bay a couple of times now and its fantastic. It’s based on a traditional Hawker Court (just a little more expensive to cater for the tourists) you browse the extensive selection of food on offer from Pizza & Pasta, Chilli Crab, Mediterranean, Indian, Chicken & Rice, Seafood and of course all the Satay Stalls.

We kicked off proceedings with a 45 piece platter from the Satay Stall. It comprised 15 Prawn, 15 Beef and 15 Chicken all served with bowls of spicy peanut dipping sauce. It was delicious and at $50 not too bad. There are a few cheaper stalls around but we stuck with the tried and tested stall from our previous visit. There is a huge queue on a Saturday & Sunday from around 7pm onwards but that just shows how popular they are! Things quieten down around 9:30pm(ish)


We then tucked into a Tandoori Mixed Platter. There were four of us so we opted to buy two full platters, 3 nan breads and two portions of rice. This came to $60 but again not too bad when you consider four of us all ate like kings and felt comfortably full afterwards. The tandoori is excellent and well cooked. The base of onions and vegetables soak up all the juices and was delicious with the rice.

We visited the fresh juice stall a couple of time and with a fruit juice costing around $1 it was very good value.


All things considered Satay by the Bay is my new favourite eating place, great food, lovely location, super views and a welcoming breeze off the water.






POINT TO NOTE : During really busy period don’t sit too close to the Satay vendors as it gets really Smokey!!

Food Delivery

We spotted a little while ago that Cold Storage had a Christmas Food Catalogue.  In the UK i'd get stuff from Marks & Spencer, but although they have shops here, they don't offer any sort of Christmas food service.  So we started looking through the CS catalogues and picked a deal that looked good to us.

We were able to pick a package of three meats that we wanted, but you could pick turkey or a ham or beef on its own.  It seemed to us a good idea to pick one of each and put things we didn't want in the freezer.

We could pick a time we wanted the delivery for free and then also pay then too.  With our package we got a cool bag for free too, so with those 'savings' we picked out a yule log too. 

 Let me tell you...it was like Christmas unwrapping that giant chocolate cake, I didn't want to package it all up again.

 Just look at how very cute it is, and I'm surprised it didn't get squished in transit.  It was very good packing.

A fully cooked turkey that just needs heated up, a fully cooked (not processed) ham and beef with black pepper sauce.

I always over cater...I can't help it.  I'm used to people popping in or having lots of visitors.

It all looks so good, these pictures don't really show how yummy it all looked.  We didn't NEED these things to be cooked, but I think because regular Singaporean kitchens aren't too big it works out really well for the majority of people to have things pre-cooked.  It means that tomorrow we can cut what we like and put it in a shallow dish with lots of gravy and no stress. 

It also means that we can now head out to catch Disneys Frozen.  I am really missing not going to the Pantomime with my family on Christmas Eve this year so Mark is taking me out to a Wintery Disney film to make up for the brave faces I've been putting on.

We should have time to get some pizza first too.  Not quite the full Christmas dinner I would normally have whilst overlooking Union Terrace Gardens, but our new tradition all the same.  We are here.  This is our home and I am so thankful that we've got each other on this adventure.

Autumn in Aberdeenshire

I am taking full advantage of this being my last autumn in Aberdeenshire for quite a while.  Our plan has always been to use up our holidays whilst in Singapore on seeing places we'd never seen before, so although I love this corner of the world, I wont be visiting for a little while.  

Although I've moaned about moving about so much in such a short space of time, most of the places we've lived in have been wonderful.  It's quite odd that this place is the cheapest of them all and its the 4 Star hotel.  We're in quite a predicament living in Aberdeen where hotels, even the worst of the worst, are expensive and you have to normally go over thirty miles out of town to get a place that will accept pets.  

When we thought we'd have to move down to Exeter for a little while we found loads and loads of lovely, inexpensive places that would accept Daisy dog.  However, we are here and I am making the most of it!

I love my walks with Daisy around the grounds.  We've been walking around the perimeter of the gardens, and then down to the walled garden.  There are still lots of apples on the trees and I'm finding lots of good conkers.

It's not all rest and relaxation though.  Today we managed to get some sweets to our old neighbours and visit my friends parents.  The weather turned horrible in the afternoon so we had to fly about the countryside in torrential rain.  My friend Catherine lives on the other side of the country, so seeing as we can't get there to drop of presents, and seeing as I thought I would be visiting and therefore bought heavy things it worked out quite well we could go visiting.  We bought some cakes from the baker and headed out to their cosy home.  Daisy came along too of course and played with their dogs and then we took them all out together.

I stayed chatting for longer than I should have as we had to rush back to the hotel as I was meeting Natalie and Holly there for afternoon tea.  I was glad they were able to see the hotel, but it was such a pity the weather had turned so awful.  The afternoon tea was actually not at all like it was the first time and such a disappointment.  It was so different, plain and made up of leftovers from breakfast.

Although it was upsetting that I had invited people to a place I thought would be nice and it was not, the afternoon was so lovely.  Holly gave me a wooden westie ornament and a really nice card.  Mark got a whiskey glass and some traditional Scottish cookery books (although I do think they'll be handed to be with bookmarks in them).

When I get back to Aberdeen I am looking forward to getting all my muddy clothes cleaned and looking good.  The one bad thing about hotels is that I can't just get my laundry done and all this walking has left me looking like a tatty scarecrow!
